Hi guys and girls,

I looking for a new bike as the old ones getting on a bit now. I'm a little unsure which to go for and narrowed it down to two.

One is a USED ex demo 2010 Mondraker Factor XC Pro comes with a three month warranty looks in very good shape all service ready to go.

The other choice is a brand new 2011 Whyte 805.

On paper the Mondraker is miles ahead of the Whyte spec wise and I am wanting to get more serious into mountian biking.

If anyone can help me either if they have tried one or both bikes or is used a no no, or if you think both are pants and have a better idea I would appreciate it a lot.

Not looked at Boardman Allan, seam to be alot of different companies out there I think Im getting a little lost with all the choices on offer.

The 2 bikes you list are quite a difference in price (c£1700 vs £900). So unless you're getting a cracking deal on the 1st you're not really comparing apples with apples as one is full sus and one is hardtail too.

Never heard of Mondraker before but spec looks OK and website reviews seem OK. May be an issue over getting spares like suspension bushes over time for such a little known brand. Whyte are well known and respected though.

I think you need to decide what you're going to use the bike for then decide on whether you need/can afford full sus. You'll always get a better quality hardtail than full sus for the same money.

Not sure where you've seen these (i.e. shop or on the web) but I'd always advise you go and see some good bike shops and see what they have. Beat them up on price a bit and give them the business if you can. You've then got somewhere for aftersales. Locally I'd recommend Big Bear -Trek,Orange plus a few exotic ranges, great cust service, Fulford Cycles - Giant, Orange, owner is a keen rider, York Cycleworks - keen riders and have a range of brands, Cycle Heaven do Scotts.

PS Don't ponder too long. It's more about the riding and the company than the perfect machine - despite what the mags would have you believe.

The Mondraker is an Ex Demo going for £995.

I guess its probably more wise to go for a local dealer as you say they can help more being on my door step, than a shop over the internet. Oh and parts is something I didnt think to much on.

With what you say Im 99% there now with a purchase, just a quick ride around the car park will help!
