Workin' on the chaingang...

Post by PhilBixby »

Since the clocks have changed the Tuesday evening chaingang will be starting up again tonight. As old hands will know this starts from just beyond the ring road roundabout on the road to Rufforth, and heads out via Tockwith and Cowthorpe to a lap (or two or three when the evenings get longer) of the triangle around Little Ribston / Spofforth / North Deighton and then a fast return. About an hour and a half, from memory.

This is known as the "Clifton chaingang" but is in fact a hugely informal ride with lots of regulars who have nothing to do with Clifton. It's pretty good race prep - if you're still there when it gets back to the ring road you're probably ready to race. Usual start time for early season is 6:15pm and put at least a rear light on; as the evenings get longer it usually shifts to 6:30 or later.

You could do the Clifton gang on a Tuesday, and the Cycleworks gang on a Thursday.. throw in a 6 hour solo ride in the Wolds on the wednesday, and that should bring some form.

Disclaimer...This kind of training might not work, or be suitable for everyone.

Always talk to a psychiatrist (or your mum) before starting a new programme of exercise. Please read the label.

How about Malton Wheelers Chain Gang on Wednesdays only until our TT's start though.

You really need to fit in some of Phil's sprint drills somewhere in the week as well. he doesn't like to talk about them, but they can boost your power by 20%.
Results can vary, and past results are no indication or guarantee of future performance.

Have fun on the gang tonight.

Intended to join the Kenilworth Wheelers Tuesday Chain Gang in Warwick, was late off work and in my frantic bid to get to Warwick in time for the 6.30 start I forgot my map so couldn't find where they were setting out from.

Result- no chain gang :( :( .

Rubbish!

Hope the York gang went well, I'm very envious of you all right now...
